30 Days of Gratitude

It’s November 1st, and I’d like to celebrate the art of gratitude this month! Henri Nouwen, in Life of the Beloved, said that “Where there is a reason for gratitude, there can always be found a reason for bitterness.” I like to turn that around as a reminder for myself to find reasons for gratitude.

In other words, I like to think that whenever there’s a reason for bitterness, there’s a chance for gratitude as well.

I’ve already blogged about how our family celebrates gratitude together. But I find (over and over again) that the more I practice gratitude, the happier I am. This fall has been a very challenging time of transition for me and my family, as I closed my business and started a part time internship at Rex Hospital. In addition, we had a lot of last minute issues thanks to the hurricanes that devastated our state. There are days I’ve felt like I was hanging on by a thread. But through it all, conscious decisions to choose gratitude have greatly helped me.

Join me on Facebook, if that’s your thing, in #30DaysofGratitude. I don’t know if that’s an official hashtag somewhere yet, but even if it is, I’m claiming it! Each day I’ll publish a new comment for people to share their gratitude platitudes on. (Is that a thing? I just invented a thing).

Let’s make November a chance to find gratitude in every twist and turn of life!

  1. Great idea! I want to participate. It’s so easy to lose sight of blessings when things around us seem dire.
